About us
STUDIOGÖTZ is a RIBA chartered practice based in Birmingham. The practice was established in 2017 by director Volker Götz to deliver high quality architectural services that output designs characterised by style.
The team focus on the creative journey with clients in the residential, education and commercial sectors, to produce memorable design solutions that transform how we live, learn and work.
We are a small team committed to providing a professional service with a personal touch, with our clients at the heart of the process. We welcome you to embark with us on the adventure of creating exciting places and spaces!
Start your journey at our garden studio, built during lockdown. Constructing it was our little ‘Phoenix rising from the ashes’ during extraordinary times. Great to work in, it exhibits some of the design flair that trademarks our architecture. Mirror cladding melts the structure into the green backdrop. Charred larch cladding roots it to the arrival deck that is accessed via a floating bridge over the lawn. Strong geometry, light and connectivity resonate in the studio.

Folding planes, meandering space and penetrating light
The essence of our architecture
Our designs are born from an analysis of function, where key adjacencies, movement flows and spatial interconnectivity build a functional diagram. The simpler this diagram reads, and more obvious and natural it feels, the greater its success. Walls are then plotted to capture space, and folded to form roofs. The 'in between' is where light penetrates and where we live. Our lives formulate the architecture. Or a poet might say, the architecture we create is the sculpture of our lives.
Process
We use 3D sketchup models and animations to illustrate proposals. These tools help describe the design more clearly, which empowers you to make decisions more confidently. They also inspire and excite, providing fuel for the construction phase ahead.

Architecture and art
Through the use of strong geometry, light and flowing space we create inspiring, uplifting architecture. Art can provide another dimension to these spaces, which is why we are proud to have collaborated with Eclectic Gallery, located in Fitzrovia, Central London. Not only does art elevate and animate a space, but provides food for the soul. This is illustrated wonderfully by artwork that we were proud to host, entrusted to us by Eclectic Gallery.
