CORNERWAYS

Little Aston

Arts & crafts meets contemporary

This is an impressive arts & crafts building in its aspect to the main approach, but internally it suffered from a warren of corridors that gave an overwhelming sense of confusion and disconnection. To address the issues we carved lines of sight across the length and breadth of the dwelling, introducing double height spaces and re-organising the functional/spatial relationships within the dwelling. Light now penetrates throughout, and the spatial flow provides both connectivity and high drama.

Phase 1 included the internal remodelling of the original dwelling and the extension to the kitchen, also providing a new sunken lounge. Phase 2, currently under construction, will provide an indoor swimming pool, a double garage with loft workshop, and a water feature podium.

“We purchased an arts and crafts period property in a conservation area and were worried we had taken on too large a project having to work within strict planning parameters. We needn’t have worried, Volker at Studio Gotz was fantastic! His vision is truly magnificent and he was able to liase with the council and building contractors to ensure the project ran as smoothly as possible and that our budget was adhered to. I cannot recommend their services highly enough - it was most definitely a stressful time but we had hired a professional team with a wealth of experience.”
